Course Objectives教學目標:
  • Accurate pronunciation in Mandarin.
  • Active use of hanyu pinyin and computer character input using pinyin.
  • Use American and Chinese holidays to learn related vocabulary.
  • Make learning Chinese an interesting and enjoyable process.
  • Make using Mandarin at home a possibility, even for non-Mandarin-speaking families.

Course Description課程內容: This is our first year using E-pen Chinese series, and we start with Level 3. We will be extensively using Hanyu Pinyin as this will be our primary computer character input method. Bopomofo is also available as a pronunciation aid throughout the textbook. In addition, we will also encounter and examine the simplified versions verses the traditional characters. There will be a heavier emphasis on character recognition over character writing. Simultaneously we will also use IQchinese Go series to review and learn all the basic vocabulary and characters. The culture classes incorporated into the curriculum will include the culture classes provided by the school, frequent in-class mahjongg playing sessions, and presentations of projects from students.

Communicative Mode and Skills Targeted 模式: Character recognition, listening comprehension, computer character input through typing in pinyin.

Material Needs:
Please bring the following items to school:
Pencils and eraser
Loose leaf binder of at least 1” thick
Papers for note taking. It can be a notebook or pages to insert into the binder.
E-pen Chinese level 3 textbook and workbooks A and B
Snacks/drinks for yourself
Good learning attitudes

At home you are expected to have access to a PC with Go100 installed.

Teacher may request additional material from the students as needs arise.

    • Each week we will make time for culture awareness. The classes with will be official CSD culture classes. All others will be assigned student presentations and in-class discussions. We will host frequent in-class mahjongg playing sessions.
